Colour/mutation and Price chart
Any colour (apart from the standard grey) in 'chinchilla breeding terms' - are known as a 'MUTATION'

Pet shops tend to charge a lot more than breeders
you can pay £80+ for a 'pet quality' chinchillas and the same price
for very good quality from a breeder!

Price examples shown are for chinchillas for re-homing - from ages around 1- 4 years old
Please note: these are only suggested prices for re-homing!
Older chinchillas aged 8+ years may need to be lower
Kits that are 1 years old and younger will be higher priced - depending on quality and who's selling/re-homing

These are re-homing price suggestions - it's up to you what you want to sell your pet for
All  major accessories like cages need to be valued on top
Breeders would 'double or treble' these prices for selling good quality chinchillas

GREY - STANDARD
Can be various shades of grey, but the most common one will
be the grey shown here - all have black eyes
re-homing suggested price will be about £20+ - this depends on quality and age of chinchilla
a good quality with pedigree will be more than £80+ from breeders
and can even be more than £150 in some cases
TOWER BEIGE
Can be various shades of 'beige' - all have pink/red eyes
The most common beige is shown here
Some are very light, but unless you know of the parents colour then it will be classed as 'hetero'
all have white tummies
True homozygous beiges are very light - nearly 'white' looking
and a good quality one will be rare to find
re-homing price for beige - £20+ depending on quality and age
more for quality £60+ onward
WILSON WHITE
The most common of the whites - a wilson white will always have
very dark black eyes - sometimes they may have flicks of grey in the fur (see mosaic below) even dark hairs on the base of the tail
Grey ears and black eyes describe a wilson white
Like the grey and beige - are reasonable common to buy now
Price example - £25+ depending on quality and age
Quality and breeders go from around £50-£80 onwards
'MOSAIC'
In breeders terms - any chinchilla that has 'white' in the fur and
have a white parent are known as a 'wilson white'
For the average pet owner - some call whites with grey flicks -'silver' (light flicks of grey anywhere on the body) or 'mosaic' (light shades to quite strong grey shade of grey on the body)
The one shown here would be classed as a 'mosaic', but they can also have stronger marking than this
Re-homing price - £25+ depending on quality and age
PINK WHITE
A little less available than 'wilson white' but in the same category
Pink whites always have pink/grey ears and red/pink eyes
They have the beige gene to produce this colour
Price example - £25+ depending on quality and age
Average to 'quality' whites will be £50 - £80 onwards
BLACK and WHITE CROSS
Do not mistake a 'mosaic' with a black and white cross - these have the grey, white and black velvet gene - and generally have the 'spats' on the paws (more about spats see black velvet below)
Price value rehoming - over £40+ depending on quality and agE
Breeders will sell for £80 and over for quality
  GUNNING BLACK VELVET
Notice the 'spats' on the paws (also the feet have these) this is a
thin dark line from the black veil leading to the paws
generally available from breeders but can sometimes buy
 in certain pet shops
description: white tummy, grey 'banding' black 'veil' with 'spats'
Price example - over £60+ depending on quality and age
Breeders wills sell well over £80 for quality
   BROWN VELVET
Same with the brown velvet - white tummy, light beige 'banding' at the sides with a dark brown 'veil' - the brown veil will develop
into a darker brown at the age of 2-3 years old
Generally have brown spats on the paws like the black velvet (this mutation has the beige and black velvet gene ) Price examples are well over £60+ depending on quality and age of the chinchilla
SULLIVAN VIOLET
Another rare colour in the pet shops but more a 'breeder buy'
Violets have no banding - have a clear white tummy - the veiling may be slightly darker but not too obvious
Price example over £60+ depending on quality and age
Re-homing suggestion would be £40+
no picture available EBONY VIOLET
Rare to find and most unlikely to be up for re-homing
Usually breeders and small hobby breeders will have these available but will have to pay the price they are worth
Violets are the same colour all around with black eyes - no white
Violet ebonies could start at £100 depending on quality and age
VIOLET WHITE CROSS
A cross between white/grey and violet
They do vary in shades -some have quite dark patches
Anyone that own this colour will know it is a white/violet cross!
Unlikely to be a re-homing venture from the average pet owner
and more likely to be a breeder/private owner that will sell this colour - estimated at £80+ depending on quality
TAN
Anyone selling a tan will be more likely breeders (small or large) and the darker the tan the more desirable,
they ALWAYS have the colour wrapped all around the body
no white tummy - and have dark/red eyes and pink ears
They can vary in shades from a light beige (see tower beige) to a medium tan as shown - and on to a very dark 'chocolate' brown
Most mediums will sell at over £150 from breeders for good quality - top quality (medium to very dark) will be more
EBONY
Another rare and desirable colour
usually sold by breeders or private owners who know the pedigree
Always black all over with no white tummy - can vary in colour
Some look like a dark grey all over the body and can go to a very 'shiny' pitch black (no white/grey hairs anywhere)
The 'every hair shiny black' quality ones are very desirable
Example of prices do vary on these depending who you buy from - can be £100 to well over £200 - price varies with quality

Examples of
ebony white cross chinchillas

EBONY WHITE CROSS
Ebony white crosses (parents are homo ebony and white)
Most unlikely a re-homing venture and nearly as rare as the ebony
Hobby or big breeders sell this colour
Depending on the quality the price will be similar to the ebony
maybe depending on the parents background - prices can go up
From an estimated £100 for quality onwards - can even go for less
but the quality can be in the 'ebony' catagory for pricing

CHARCOAL
A craze for charcoal has started recently, Charcoal was once a colour that not many people were interested in a few years ago
Charcoal looks like a light grey ebony but is definitely a different mutation - shown best in the Homozygous state
Grey all over with no white tummy
A dark grey/black unison all around
Estimated prices depend on quality - £100 to £150+

The  younger chinchilla starts with a lighter coat and this develops into a lovely deeper sheen of blue when over 1 year old
LARSEN SAPPHIRE
Most unlikely to have a sapphire on a re-homing page!
Prices similar to black velvets up to tan prices depending on quality
With sapphires - always make sure you buy from a reputable breeder who breeds and has a good knowledge of this colour, Sapphires in the past in the UK are known to have teeth problem, reputable breeders are the best option to buy this colour
Can start at £80 on to £150+

ROYAL BLUE
Very rare and quality in this country still needs working on
Owned by breeders that know what they are doing
At present the pricing is around £200+ up to £400+ or can be a lot more depending on quality and breeding
Royal blues are a combination of a
recessive sapphire and a black velvet
RB have a darker, richer blue veiling than sapphires
